Should have asked me last week when I was there!

We're using LTO2 here and in Dallas - 200/400GB per tape, same general tape
cost as SDLT at this point, and better speed to tape.

Now - the technical explaination. xDLT uses a back and forth motion for
writing to tape - it writes a set length of tape, moves the heads into the
gaps, and reverses direction. LTO I believe runs the entire length of the
tape before reversing. That's less wear and tear on the mechanism, overall.
