teher is not a single answer.
In my experience for more 5000 users the following features are needed:

- SCSI separately (RAID) architetture
- Cluster HD
- Cluster and/or NLB for network
- minimum four eth Lan Card disposed by pair on two different switch High speed (1Gb)
- stopping or not insatlling not useful services
- native driver for critical peripherals (not Microsoft)

- coffe and luke (very much non need in this order)

Bye

I am having a hard time finding informative data on a good file server. My requirements are:
1. Scalable to 7TB
2. Speed of transfers
3. Windows/*nix/Mac compatible
4. Works flawlessly with AD
5. Total users = 5000

Current environment:
2000 AD native mode
90% XP, 7% Mac OS, 3% Solaris clients

I like the thought of a NetApp file server, but i hear the cost is high. OS?? Server 2000, Server 2003, Samba on Solaris, some version of linux, or Mac OS X server? What advise can you give me on hardware?
I am a Microsoft person, but when it comes down to it, I am for whatever the best solution is, and I dont want to make a costly mistake to both my reputation and the reputation of the IT deparment.

Many thanks
