We ran forestprep and domainprep on existing Windows 2000 DCs and then added
new Windows 2003 DCs and moved the FSMO roles. I am not aware of any reasons
to upgrade a 2000 machine to a 2003 machine.

Subject: [ActiveDir] Upgrading to Windows 2003

I have a Windows 2000 domain with 6 servers running Windows 2000 spread
across 3 sites. I want to move to Windows 2003 and, reasonably soon, replace
all the 2000 servers with new servers so I don't really want to upgrade the
existing servers if I can avoid it.

Can I:

Run adprep /forestprep and adprep /domainprep on one of the servers Wait for
the changes to replicate Install a new 2003 server Run DCPromo on that new
server

or should I:

install a "spare" server with Windows 2000 run dcpromo on that server run
adprep etc upgrade that server to Windows 2003 install a new 2003 server and
run dcpromo remove the "spare" server

or is there a better way. I've read KB article 325379 but it seems to assume
that I'm going to upgrade existing hardware.
