Here's a script to get the OS.  It'll give you a start.
 
 
BTW: You could also utilize remote installation, which would auto-detect the OS.

This means that I would have to take a group of computers and manually push the client.  I like setting up automation, makes my job easier.

Why not just use targeted Client Push?

Is anyone using SMS 2003 with an AD2003 domain?  I am trying to create a logon script to detect the client’s OS and install the appropriate SMS Client.  I need some scripting help, if someone would be willing.  It is not going extremely well. L
