"you can remove it" ? Are you sure? You should likely be sure that you have it elsewhere to be sure you're not removing something you need. Since it is there (and as Joe says, it's likely from a once failed install) you should be really careful to understand why it's there and how it got there. If you have access to the dc it got installed on, take a look at the exchange install logs to see the history of why it's there. Should be on the OS drive off the root.
Why do I use so much caution? From the following article: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=260378 "Note You can remove the entire Microsoft Exchange 2000 organization from Active Directory by deleting the Microsoft Exchange object. When you delete this object, you may be forced to reinstall all Microsoft Exchange servers in your enterprise. If you intend to remove Exchange entirely from your enterprise, you should also open the Active Directory Users and Computers management console, and remove the Microsoft Exchange System Objects container." I have only ever seen that in place when the ADC was installed on a machine. joe -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Kern, Tom Sent: Saturday, May 15, 2004 6:54 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] OT exchange settings No, my bad. its at the same level. no adc was installed. -----Original Message----- From: joe [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, May 15, 2004 6:19 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] OT exchange settings Ewww. No you shouldn't have that there unless did you install the ADC on the DC? Even still, I wouldn't expect it under the NTDS Settings.... It should be at the same level as NTDS Settings if I recall correctly. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Kern, Tom Sent: Saturday, May 15, 2004 6:01 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] OT exchange settings under the dc and ntds object in sites and services. exchange is not running on a dc. -----Original Message----- From: joe [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Saturday, May 15, 2004 2:14 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] OT exchange settings Are you looking under the Services section in the Exchange branch and seeing this and did you have Exchange running on a DC? -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Kern, Tom Sent: Friday, May 14, 2004 6:41 PM To: ActiveDir (E-mail) Subject: [ActiveDir] OT exchange settings what is the purpose of the exchange settings folder(which is empty) under the pdc/rid/infra master dc in ad sites and services? and how does exchange or ad pick which server to place it under? finally, if i'm decomissning that server, how do i move this folder or will it move automagically? what will break? i know, alot of questions for an OT. sorry. thanks for any advice and info.
