Russ,

Migrating the DC's is really a matter of demoting them - making them a membver of the domain that they are currently in.  Then, demote the last one, which will retire the old domain.  At this point, you have two member servers.  Join them to the new domain, then promote them to DCs.

Now, what *I* would do is demote them, thereby whacking the old domain.  Then, I'd format and reinstall whatever OS you're going to use with teh latest SP that you feel comfortable with on your domain.

But, that's just me.  I hate legacy crap laying around waiting to bite me in the butt when I least need the pain and hassle.

Subject: [ActiveDir] Migrating 2k to 2k domains

We have a standalone Win2k domain of a company we purchased and we have our own standalone single AD domain.  We have an empty forest root domain and our child domain.  They have the same.  We want to consolidate the two domains, so we set up a two-way trust.  We have Quest Fastlane Migrator and can migrate accounts, desktops, etc, but how do you migrate domain controllers from one domain to another?  Do we have to demote them and then join them to our domain and then promote them?  What's the process?
