1. I think this will depend on what software you are using to do your backups. However, most software will use the catalog to see what was last backedup.
2. We do a full backup each night. We have a remote site 5 miles away that we use for our off site storage. We have GigE between our remote site and our main server room. Does a differential backup require a Full Backup to be placed inside the tape library for referral, or does the differential backup compare it's data to the catalog from the last full backup? 2. What's the general practice for you guys in your environment, do you take out your differential backups from the library each morning and send them off site, or do you only send off your Full Weekly backups and not worry about the differentials.
