Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] OT - Straw poll: Server disk defrag

Laura,

The one that comes with Windows is a lite version of a program called
DISKEEPER from executive Software.
http://www.executive.com/defrag/defrag.asp
http://www.executive.com/diskeeper/adminconsole.asp

With version 8.0 Admin Console you can monitor all of the servers with it
installed, push the installation and more I believe that this is an
additional license on top of the per server license for Diskeeper Server
Standard Edition or Diskeeper Server Enterprise Edition. We are not using
it right now, but I'm trying to get budget dollars for it next year.

Another option is a program called AUTODEFRAG by Morphasys
http://www.morphasys.com/autodefrag/

this allows you to schedule defrag using the Windows scheduler. It's a
pretty nifty program for free :-) I've been using it on some of the file
servers we have here with pretty good results.

Hope this helps. I'm also looking forward to answers everyone else may have
before I turn in my budget "wish-list"

Thanks,

Raymond

Subject: [ActiveDir] OT - Straw poll: Server disk defrag

Evening all,

Just looking for some recommendations from my favourite smart people:
what (if anything) do you all use for disk defragmenting in an
enterprise scenario? I'm tyring to find something nicely schedule-able
and manage-able from a single console, and the built-in 200/3 jobbie
(while a welcome addition) isn't quite cutting the mustard.

Thanks!
