Hello: I have inherited a network that exhibits two oddities.
The network is all Windows 2000 or later. DNS is AD-integrated. There are no WINS
servers. Periodically, I get an MRxSmb
Event ID 8003 error where a workstation is thinks it is the master browser for NetBT. I thought DCs were
automatically the master browser. Any thoughts? Also, when I make a VPN connection to the network
(to a W2k pptp server), I am not able to logon to the
domain using its DNS name (company.com). The eventvwr
says “the specified domain does not exist”. However, it works fine
if I just use the NetBIOS name of COMPANY. Are these related? Do I need a WINS server (despite
