If all you have to do is grab the data off of the box as
fast as possible, I would recomend doing a parallel install of XP, snagging the
data, then dumping the box or fighting through the problem.

Subject: [ActiveDir] Windows XP Automated System Recovery Disk
Good morning everyone,
(What a great way to start the day)
One of our "important" PC has died over night (the computer turns on and goes to
the Windows Screen and then reboots - this happen over and over again) and I now
need to do a recovery on it, quick question in regards to the Windows XP
recovery process. Has anyone ever used the recovery console to bring a machine
backup?
I jumped onto the internet to see
what I could find and I found an article that mentions typing in: "disable mup"
at the command line (after selecting the recovery option). However the message i
got back mentioned that the registry had be come to corrupt.
My next option is to try and create a
Automated System recovery disk - if found the process on the MS website (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;299526)
however I'm not sure if it's machine specific. Am I able to go to a desktop that
works and then create the recovery disk and then take this to the machine that's
crashed?
Any help would be
appreciated.
Cheers, Andrew
