That does sound like a possibility. I've tried to search the Internet for
more information on that, but I haven't come up with much. Do you know if
it only does the pings when a computers starts, or does it continually ping
computers throughout the day? That amount of the traffic shown seems
extremely high. Is there some way to minimize the amount of pinging a DC
does to support this feature?

I believe you are seeing the link speed detection traffic. Check out KB

One of the networking professionals within our company that says he is
seeing hundreds of gigs of ping network traffic everyday to and from the
