If your server runs the RPC service, these viruses can and will bounce your machine if infected. Did you keep your Windows up to date? When was your last windows update? To help you more, some more information would be needed. While you can't actually get into the machine, you can give some more descriptive information. For example, When you say startup process, what do you mean? After the login screen pop's up? After you sign in? Or after the "Starting Windows" passes and you go into GUI mode? Does this happen in exactly the same spot every time? Or is it seperated by a little bit of time? You mention the same thing happens in safe mode, what about booting into VGA mode? (This would point to a graphics card problem. Usually the driver, but it's possible something on it died and it can't handle more than the basics.) I've had my graphics card cause Windows to reboot in random spots after you login. When I say random, it could be immieditly or 5 minutes away. What about booting from the CD and trying a repair?
Just some stuff to help narrow down where the problem is coming from.
