Hibernation and swap files
When Norton Ghost creates image files or clones, it does not include
hibernation
and swap files. These files are valid only for one Windows session, and when
they
are included in an image file, they make it significantly larger.
Norton Ghost implements file skipping differently for each type of file
system.
■ FAT file systems: Files are not included on the image file or destination
disk.
■ NTFS file systems: A file with the same name is created on the image file
or
destination disk, but the contents of the file are not copied.
The following files are skipped on all file systems:
■ 386Spart.par
■ Amizvsus.pmf
■ Dos data.sf
■ Ghost.dta
■ Hiberfil.sys
■ Hibrn8.dat
■ Hybern8
■ Navsysl.dat
■ Navsysr.dat
■ Pagefile.sys
■ Pm_hiber.bin
■ Save2dsk.bin
■ Saveto.dsk

You have the possibility to convert in the following ways:
* run a script (convert <drive> /fs:ntfs) after the the image has been
restored and the systems has booted
* use sysprep to convert the volume when running the mini-setup

Both solutions suck... Why? The file system is converted to NTFS but your
default permissions are different from a system that has been installed with
NTFS directly. There are differences in NTFS permissions when:
(1) volume is NTFS formatted (yet no directories in place) and then the
directory structure is created and the system is installed
(2) volume is FAT32 formatted (yet no directories in place) and then the
directory structure is created and the system is installed, and then the
volume is converted to NTFS.

With option (2) some important directories have (if I remember correctly)
everyone with full control (e.g. the GroupPolicy directory with the local
GPO, etc.) I have done it once to repair the permissions of a Windows Xp Pro
system (we wanted to achieve ONE single image for ALL clients!) after it was
converted from fat32 to ntfs. The permissions were repaired through a script
a created. ONE HELL OF A JOB!

You could however delete the pagefile through (not needed because ghost
skips hibernation and swap files):
* Reboot the system with the recovery console and delete the pagefile
* Or reboot the system with another system (ERD commander, NTFS pro, WinPE,
Windows system, etc.) and delete the pagefile

Jorge

>From what I can determine You CANNOT Delete or add any files if the
image is of a NTFS partition. Unfortunately ours is NTFS. So the easiest
thing I can think of is to create the image under fat32. But I need the
final to be NTFS. So Is there a way I can have the system convert to NTFS
automatically?

I confirm it
Ghost DOESN'T images pagefile.sys and other temporary If you want you can
delete/extract/view/copy files from the image (.gho)

file (only delete if NTFS, also add in Windows9x case) by a symantec utility
(ghost explorer)
