Not sure if it will work for you, but you could start the DC in Directory
Services Restore Mode. In that mode AD is NOT running and you have a server
that behaves like a STAND-ALONE server (not as member server!) within its
own security context. In that mode the server knows it's a DC but does not
know to what domain it belongs to (see computer properties, it shows
something like unknown). The server will also not accept domain accounts to
run services or programs as the stand-alone context does not have a trust
relationship with the domain it is from.

Cheers
Jorge

Subject: [ActiveDir] Stop AD service?

Is there a way to stop the Active Directory service? I'm probably
missing some core concept here, but it seems to me that AD can't be
'shut down'. I would think there would be an entry in the Services
list that allows one to stop AD.

Here's my situation: I've never used AD before. I have a java app that
connects to AD to retrieve info, it is functional and solid. After
some idle time, the connection times out resulting in a bug in my
application (exception is java.net.SocketException: Socket closed). I
have a plan on how to fix the bug, but first I need to be able to
replicate the problem. I need to be able to sever the connection from
the Active Directory side.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance,
Patrick
