So long as you have and use the "Automatically update email address based upon recipient policy" checked in the user account the old one will stay in as an SMTP address. The address one will appear after replication. You may have to change the user's ALIAS. I haven't confirmed this but we always change it to the new email address/logon so they all match. We also have our recipient policy set to the username and I believe the exchange default is FirstInitialLastName which does not work for a lot of places because there could be 5 jsmith's but it will end up making a jsmith, jsmith2, jsmith3, etc....

Ok what about the new e-mail address that they would need? Suggestions on that?

You could just update the AD Display Name and rename the UserID.  AD uses SID’s and GUID’s to secure access to resources.

We discourage name changes, too much work. If you can produce 3 picture ID’s, 2 credit cards and a reconstructed birth certificate, I’ll maybe change your name…

Subject: [ActiveDir] Account Name Change

I recently had someone in my office get married and thus change their name. Last time this happened, I just created a new account in AD and moved the files and other important stuff from the old account to the new account. I was just wondering, is there an easier way to do this? Am I reinventing the wheel here? What do other people do in this situation?

Thanks
