It's a bit of a clumsy solution, but you create a script to do this.

-Make a share on the server that only the techs can read/write to. -Tell the techs to put in info on the printer they want to add in a defined format, like make of name of the text file the name of the printer, and within the file enter in needed info like IP address, share name, driver, all based on a predefined format so your script can read it.
-Have a scheduled task run the script every so often on the server to check the share to see if there are any new text files with printer info, and add any new printers.

There you go, printers will be added with the credentials of whoever set up the scheduled task. The techs would only be able to read/write on a special share.

Scenario:

Windows 2000 clustered server. Mail on one node. File share and
printer share on the other node.

- Need the ability for the Desktop Technicians that install the
physical printers to install them onto the server.

- Printers are setup using static IP's and added to the server
using IP ports.

- Do not want to give them local admin rights on the server.

Currently These select individuals are in the local admin group on the
server which of course creates many problems in other areas that we
don't want.

Is there are way to give someone the rights to add a printer to the
server without giving them admin rights to the whole server? Not
talking about Printer Operators group which allows them to manage
printers that are already added.
