It depends on the product and vendor. IIRC, you might have to rename the
driver file to match what is being loaded, but I don't recall exactly
what we did, and that procedure can really hose things if you mess it
up. I think we renamed the current driver to .old, and named the new
driver the old driver name.
Best if you can either contact the vendor for the correct procedure, or
try reinstalling the old card first and then doing the install of the
new card, especially if you have enough slots in the server for both
cards.
I know once I figured out what was going on, I got on the phone and was
glad I did. The server support folks really knew their stuff and I was
running again in less than an hour...
