Second time? Nope third feature in an article, there was also a writeup on ExchMbx at one point, I believe by the Exchange Guy Paul R. Since about 1999 I have seen/heard of a ton of small reader to reader things about my tools and I have actually submitted a few[1] reader to reader articles personally that were published and I got the $50 for.
No royalties yet. However it looks like I may have some royalties starting next January or so. We'll see. joe [1] Been years though, they pissed me off and took something I wanted to go in the regular mag and put it in one of their little newsletter thingies they charge massive bucks for. If I recall correctly, it was a "how to" on making it so non-admins could see perf counters remotely back in NT4 and early 2K days before everyone was talking about it and MS made it simpler. I think I had a little command line tool to to do the configuration. Been a while for that one. Also the first thing I submitted was back in Dec 1999 and was a tool and actual source code for receiving NET SEND mailslot messages on Windows 9x. It was called Mess95. It was immensely popular because it hit itself from the task bar and couldn't be used to send messages, only receive, something big companies really liked. Other than that it looked just like the NET SEND windows popping up. That turned into a disaster as I had people all over the world tweaking the code and then telling me the mess95 program didn't work for them and I wouldn't find out until quite a ways into the troubleshooting that they had modified the source and were using me for free debug support for their piss poor developers. One was even a company that was trying to sell apps like that. -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Thursday, May 05, 2005 7:17 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] joe makes Windows IT Pro.... Well, OK - maybe not 'joe', but ADFind and ADMod get a nod in Sean Deuby's feature article on command-line control of your servers. On page 67, Sean deals with third-party tools. First up - ADFind and ADMod. "AdFind and AdMod are two powerful, easy-to-use freeware utilities by Joe Richards." Roughly three paragraphs on how to best use the tools is a realy NICE nod, IMHO. (It goes on to discuss and praise the massive usefulness of the tools and that they ought to be on every DC everywhere.) Ok, maybe that last part was an embellishment. Good job joe, you big stud you!
