In addition to Jorge's comment (which I have to admit to having not experienced), ensure you rename the DC via the command line not the SYSDM.CPL applet.

This is a freshly built machine that was brought up in the same AD site as the old system it was replacing for operational reasons. The old system was demoted and removed a few weeks ago and we want to re-assume the original name. The domain (and forest) are at 2003 functional level. http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/library/S erverHelp/aad1169a-f0d2-47d5-b0ea-989081ce62be.mspx netdom computername CurrentComputerName /add:NewComputerName Ensure the computer account updates and DNS registrations are completed, then type: netdom computername CurrentComputerName /makeprimary:NewComputerName Restart the computer. netdom computername NewComputerName /remove:OldComputerName Thanks Bob List info : http://www.activedir.org/List.aspx List FAQ : http://www.activedir.org/ListFAQ.aspx List archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/activedir%40mail.activedir.org/ List info : http://www.activedir.org/List.aspx List FAQ : http://www.activedir.org/ListFAQ.aspx List archive: http://www.mail-archive.com/activedir%40mail.activedir.org/
