Let me rephrase... You have a Novell environment that already uses the DNS domain name BLABLA.COM and you want to install W2K3 AD with the same DNS domain name and you also need interoperability between Novell and AD?
This would not be possible if you were talking about 2 W2K3 domains with the same DNS domain name. In the case of the Novell environment and the AD environment there should not be any issue because if environments use different DNS records (SRVs). AD Clients and servers use DNS service records to find AD DCs and DCs uses CNAME records to replicate with each other, etc.. The main question here is how does Novell and its clients use DNS. Does it use service records and what zone structure does it need/use? I don't know the answer to this question, but maybe you can answer this yourself after you see my comments. For interoperability it is best to use ONE of the DNS environments as primary....provided by Novell or provided by W2K3. I don't know if Novell supports the DNS requirements for AD, but you can read more at: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=237675 http://www.microsoft.com/technet/prodtechnol/windowsserver2003/library/Serve rHelp/b9d72f2b-1928-46d1-8123-52407f0c4cf3.mspx In summary, it should support: * Dynamic updates (DDNS) (recommended and prefferably secured!) * Service Records (NEEDED) Following cases are possible: (1) Use MS DNS for both (2) Novell DNS supports the requirements... You're ready! Use Novell DNS (3) Novell DNS does not support DDNS... To use Novell DNS records must be manually created (4) Novell DNS does not support Service records... To use Novell DNS records delegate the underscore zones to the MS DNS Hope this helps Cheers #JORGE# -----Original Message----- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Chandra Burra Sent: maandag 23 mei 2005 16:47 To: [email protected] Subject: [ActiveDir] NOVELL and WINDOWS 2003 AD All, Quick one please.....client wants to have same domain name for the existing Novell directory and new Windows2003 AD as the same...ex; xxx.com Can this be done ...if yes, then what are the implications...and also they wanted to stay on the Novell DNS...
