There were already a lot of replies about monitoring software so I'll point out something else. There is a great product from Quest called Spotlight on AD that is pretty good for giving you a heads up view of your AD environment. It will not replace a real monitoring/reporting product like Openview, MOM or NetPro, but it can be a nice compliment in some cases.
http://wm.quest.com/products/spotlightad/ If you are going to have a domain with 150k users then you may also want to look at a tool like NetPros Change Auditor. If you can contain the number of people with higher levels of access to the directory then this might not be required.
