Hi Darren,

The information for each Domain based root is stored in AD in the following
location:

Domain Directory Partition - System - Dfs-Configuration - FTDFS object (root
name)

For more info check "How DFS Works"
Ref/a9096e88-1634-4da6-b820-537341d34906.mspx)

* How site discovery takes places? Search in the article above for "How Site
Discovery Works"

* Where AD stores DFS info concerning sites? It depends if it is W2K or W2K3
Search in the article above for "Differences in where site information is
stored"

Remember that are changes in W2K3 SP1 concering DFS. See "Changes to
Functionality in Microsoft Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1"

Hope this helps

Cheers!

Subject: [ActiveDir] dfs replica list storage?

Someone asked me this question and I don't think I have ever checked
into it. Is the list of DCs available to serve up a given DFS replica
(e.g. SYSVOL) for a given site, stored in AD somewhere? If so, where? I
couldn't find anything obvious within the site-specific storage areas.
In other words, what does a client query, exactly, to get its referral
list for DFS?
