[ActiveDir] DNS problem - Urgent

My organization has found the need to restore our root _msdcs AD integrated zone on our forest.

I was wondering if anyone has suggestions. We are currently looking at three options:

1) force the recreation of the zones

2) restore a sub-root DC, backup the DNS and try to import this restore on a root DC

3) a selective authorative restore of a backup of a root DC

I'm running light on documentation for all three options so any info would be welcome.

Oh, we are running Windows 2003 AD and domain controllers without SP1 in native mode.
