I have changed mine. (Mainly because I didn't configure all of the servers
and we forgot what password was used).

Here are the steps that I follow when I change it:

1. type ntdsutil
2. set dsrm password
3. reset password on server null
4 <enter new password>
5. q
6. q

I'm not sure how scriptable this would be.

Subject: [ActiveDir] Changing a authoritative restore password on a DC

Greetings,

Quick question, does any one ever change their initial password used when
they installed Active Directory? If so do you use a third party tool to
automate the password change across all the controllers or is this some
thing that is easily scriptable?

Sincerely,
