My first guess at this, Rocky, is that it's nothing to do with the FSMO role
of the machine at all. Without having more detail (read: LOTS) of how your
environment is configured, I'd have to say that it's likely a Network Browse
issue.

Try having a couple users run an 'NBTSTAT -RR' from their system. If that
doesn't help (likely won't), determine who the Master Browser is on your
network. If the FSMO role that failed was the PDC, part of its
responsibility is taking all of the information from other segment browse
masters and merging it into one overall picture of your Network Browse
'domain', if you will.

Subject: [ActiveDir] Network Down

People,

This AM, my W2K SP3 FSMO halted (thermally). Compaq is dispatching a
tech to replace a board. But now, my Users, although they can log on to
the domain (there is a backup DC), cannot see a SQL Server/File Server
share set, as well as other PCs on the domain. I can see the Network
from the backup DC and the SQL Server but they can't see it.

Could anyone offer me a hint of why they can't see Servers that are up?
I would appreciate it greatly.

Thanks.

RH
