Which domain is the schema FSMO in? Any replication issues?  Have you verified the schema FSMO is replicating?  Have you taken it offline in order to conduct this upgrade?

I saw that article. This is on the schema master with an account that has Schema and Enterprise admins. We have two domains, empty top level root and a production domain. We have two DC's in the root and 29 in the production. All Windows 2003 with the exception of one that does have SP1 installed to test.

... it too references the "Schema updates allowed" value but I'd guess you've got another problem since that is not required against a 2K3 DC, initial thoughts lead me toward InitSync not being met.

 

Is the update focused against the schema FSMO?

Please describe your configuration, number of DCs/domains/OS versions ...

The application has an installer that is used to update the schema. When it runs it seems to be trying to enable the schema for writing and fails. We receive the following error, "The system can not find the file specified. (0x80070002)". I think this is an Avaya specific error.

 

My main reason for asking was the integrator was disagreeing with me about 2003 already being enabled for Schema updates and I wanted to make sure I wasn't going crazy. Is anyone else running this application in a 2003 environment?

Your thinking is accurate but there are many other potential preventive factors, a great deal more detail re: the errors you're experiencing would help.

Hi,

I am having some problems updating the schema for Avaya Unified Messaging. It is my thinking that in Windows 2003 the schema is already enabled for updates as long as you are in the Schema Admins group. In Windows 2000 you had to enable the Schema to be updated. Am I correct or misguided?
