This is probably the age old issue with profile handles being left open,
thus preventing the profile from being fully deleted. There are a couple
of things you can try. The first thing I'd try is setting the following
policy to some higher value, like 90: Computer Configuration\Admin
Templates\System\User Profiles\maximum retries to unload and update user
profile 

If that doesn't help, then the next, and more drastic step is to
download and install the UPHClean service on each workstation where you
want this policy to work. UPHClean's job is to sit there and clean up
dangling User Profile Handles (hence the name) that get left open. You
can download it at

I know that you can configure a GPO to delete cached copies of roaming
profiles.  This link even provides the details:

The only problem is that it doesn't want to work.  I also can see that
the GPO is being recognized.  Any suggestions...
