If all your clients are XP, you use GPO to set multiple suffixes.

If you have pre-XP clients in the mix, you use a script to stuff multiple
suffixes in there. I thought I had a sample script for this on my site, but
it's not there right now. When I'm less busy, I'll whip something up and post
it.

Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] DHCP Issue

When I go to the DHCP MMC on all but two of my W2K3 DHCP servers and select
"Configure Options" on the scope or server options. Under the General tab I
have an Available Options Of 135 "Domain suffix search order".

I'm trying to get this option configured on a few of my servers because we
have a problem resolving names if we don't put in the suffixes.

Hmm... Are you trying to set options other than your AD domain name?

What made you choose 135 as the option number?

Last I had checked (and it's been a short while) you couldn't set the
suffix search order with DHCP. I don't have one handy to see it to see if
it's changed recently, however I do note that the RFC's show option 135 as
PXE - vendor defined. Doesn't make me think that you can use it without
having issues later. Plus the client wouldn't understand that setting.

        Curious.

        Hey all,

I'm having issues with my DHCP scope on a Windows 2003 Standard
server.

I'm trying to push out a domain suffix search order however that
option
doesn't seem to be available on my server and I can't make it show
up.

I'm working with a freshly installed copy of Windows 2003 that I
fully
        patched minus SP1.

I joined it to the domain and authorized the DHCP server and setup
the rest
of the scope information (IP range, DNS server, WINS server, etc).
However
when I tried to add the suffix order the 135 option doesn't show up.

I have tried this like three times and had one of my colleagues
review what
I did and we can't figure it out.

        Any suggestions??

        Thanks,

        Charlie
