Sorry for the extra post, but in addition to my first post
you will need to ensure that routers are re-configured to forward BOOTP requests
to the new IP, if the DHCP service is installed on a machine which receives an
IP address change.

Subject: [ActiveDir] Upgrading Hardware for Windows 2003 DC
Hi,
I am planning on replacing my existing Domain Controller hardware with new
HP Servers. All DC's in my environment are GC's running Windows 2003
in a single Domain Forest.
The area I am unsure about is that I've been asked to keep the names of the
servers exactly the same
To keep the names the same and perform an upgrade, do I still need to do a
metadata cleanup / remove entries from DNS once I demote the
'to-be-replaced-DC' from the domain, even though I plan to install the same
named DC/IP on new hardware?
Also, if I have DNS & DHCP running on the individual DC's, are there
any gotcha's which you've experienced when replacing existing Windows 2003
Servers with new hardware using the same name & IP address? (I
realise DHCP is not recommended on a DC though we're happy to take that
risk)
thanks...
Frank
