You are correct.

The address may change for other reasons tho:
1. A reservation is added [for another MAC address] for your machine's IP address
2. An exclusion is added to the scope, which includes your machine's IP address.

Subject: [ActiveDir] OT: DHCP...

Hi,

If a computer has been assigned an IP from the DHCP Server, when it gets to the 50% stage of it's lease, the computer attempts to request its same address. As this computer already has the IP assigned to it, the likelyhood is that the IP of the workstation will stay the same.

So if I have a desktop computer which is permanantly connected to the network and never switched off but it's been assigned an IP address through DHCP, the chances are this computer will retain the same IP throughout it's time on the network (or unless it's disconnected from the network and it's lease period expires and another machine takes it's IP)

How am I doing? am I missing anything?

Frank...
