I did that a couple of years ago, when I got new HW for my
DCs: no problems at all. From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Medeiros, Jose Sent: Thursday, February 16, 2006 2:02 PM To: [email protected] Subject: RE: [ActiveDir] SQL 2000 on a DC Yep.. I like your
first approach the best, only because most SQL Data Bases are very large and the
transfer of the data base files make take some time. For the life of me
and can’t see any reason why removing AD would cause a problem with the existing
SQL installation. Jose From:

On Behalf Of Tony
Murray Hi
all Here’s one I’ve not come across
before. I have a situation in which SQL 2000 is running on a Windows 2000
DC. My plan is to separate the two so that they run on separate
hardware. I’m just wondering about the best approach for doing this.
Is it as simple as running DCPROMO to demote (after due attention to
transferring FSMO roles, ensuring GC, DNS, etc. availability), or will that mung
the SQL in some nasty way? Would it be better to set up SQL on
another box and migrate the databases across and then remove SQL from the
DC? I will be running through this in
the lab, but if anyone has some real world experience of this I’d love to hear
it. Tony This communication, including any attachments, is confidential.
