The general idea is that all manageable groups have groups associated with them named “Managers – GroupName”  That “Managers – “ group is put into the “Managed By” tab.  When someone logs into the ManageGroups app, their IIS credentials are used to query AD (recursively) to see what groups they are in.  Any that begin with “Managers – “ are used to populate the drop down box of the groups they can manage.

It probably makes more sense when you see it in action, but the code is pretty well commented.

I’ve got an asp.net app that does this.  Its really not meant for general consumption, but you’re welcome to it if you’d like to tweak it.

Subject: [ActiveDir] Allowing users to manage security groups

The “manager can update membership list” is great, but how does a user do that for a security group?  For a Distribution Group, they can use Outlook, but I don’t want to hand over the ADUC mmc snap-in to my users to manage security groups.

Does anyone have any recommendations on 3rd party products that allow a very controlled “self-service”, either through web or actual client?  What about any public ASP that does this?

Thanks,
