Correct. Using a host file only works for one website, which solved part of the problem. The other site will have to used another port. The main site is registered with the external DNS(BIND), but the other sites are registered with internal DNS(AD) server. No forwarding. When in production all sites will use port 80 on the same server and register with ext. DNS server.

>From my reading of the question, OP wanted to know how to access the sites by
IP address. Editing your hosts file doesn't help you with that.
