We already did in-place upgrade for half of our DCs.

If each 2k3DC is newly promoted, as opposed to an in-place upgrade, then the .dit on those DCs will essentially be compacted with minimal whitespace. Were you planning on rebuilding your DCs as part of the migration, or doing in-place upgrades?
