If I understand Dean's tip correctly (Dean correct me if I'm wrong) he suggests to take some entries from section [DEFAULTFIRSTMACHINE] of schema.ini and put it into [DEFAULTADDLMACHINE], which will cause that when this machine will be promoted as DC in existing forest this option will force it to behave in this aspect as first DC in forest. So it will be promoted as a GC. Not exactly the same as option available with IFM but if works - why not to use it.
