* setup at least 2 DCs (DC1 and DC2)
* backup DC1 using the product
* create objects (users, groups, etc) on DC1 and DC2 and let it replicate
* create a few GPOs on DC1
* On DC1 execute:
DCDIAG /TEST:RIDMANAGER > DCDIAG_BEFORE.TXT
REPADMIN /SHOWREPL DC1 > REPADMIN1_BEFORE.TXT
REPADMIN /SHOWUTDVEC DC1 <domain NC DN > REPADMIN2_BEFORE.TXT
* Wack DC1 and restore it using the product
* after the restore execute on DC1:
DCDIAG /TEST:RIDMANAGER > DCDIAG_AFTER.TXT
REPADMIN /SHOWREPL > REPADMIN1_AFTER.TXT
REPADMIN /SHOWUTDVEC DC1 <domain NC DN > REPADMIN2_AFTER.TXT
force inbound replication on DC2 from inbound DC1. if USN are detected
(assuming at least SP1 is being used on the DCs) the netlogon is paused and
replication is disabled for both inbound and outbound repl.
DC1 should have:
* a new RID pool. check the output files and compare and also look at the DS
event log for the SAM source information event (which means it got a new RID
pool)
* a new invocation ID should have been generated for the AD DB
* a healthy output of the UTD vecs (also see:
http://blogs.dirteam.com/blogs/jorge/archive/2006/03/08/597.aspx)
* event in the FRS event log saying the SYSVOL has been rebuild using another
partner (or something like that, don't remember the exact text)
if ANY of the above fails.... well you know
