thanks for your comprehensive answer - unfortunately I had just composed a
long reply, when NT gave me the blue screen treatment :-( (first ever on
this machine in 2 years so fingers crossed it won;t happen again!)
I have implemented the character substitution for now, and will be
attampting to re-write the xml generation program based on the concepts you
touched on. At the moment the propgram simply selects data from an ODBC
datasource, marks it up and writes it to a file with a...
<?xml version='1.0'? encoding='UTF-8'?> tag at the top.
It doesn't actually use any validation code or modules to make sure the file
is UTF-8. Which modules should I use to achieve this?
sorry to be blunt, the last email was much more informative but I don't have
the time to re-write it!
