Allen,

Is there a chance you're going thru a proxy server?  Even though the http://
address may be local to your LAN.  I'm guessing you don't...i.e. the
www.yahoo.com works, but I have no idea how your network is setup.  I use
LWP::UserAgent for news feeds, this allows me to place a proxy server userid
and password in.
