Hi all, I wonder if I can pick the assorted brains of the listserve members? Apologies if this is off-topic, or not the right etiquette for the list, but googling doesn't turn up anything useful. I tried Dave Roth's script archive as well, but no joy (BTW, if he's reading this, thanks for the Win32::AdminMisc module; its been very useful!). We need to migrate a whole load of files (80GB? approx.) from one NT fileserver to a 2k fileserver, preserving the permissions, possibly in staged sessions, as there is too much data to just copy over in one night, and not affect the users, backups etc. rsynch would be ideal here, of course, but I don't think the cygwin port would preserve the permissions correctly. This seems something that perl could do, and indeed, I've seen solutions to extract permissions info, and set permissions info, and even I could write a script to move a file :-) However, I haven't found one that's all of those together. My perl isn't up to putting it all together, or rather, I can't afford the week or so it would take me, personally, to write it, assuming I don't run into any snags (A man's gotta know his limitations, as Clint Eastwood once said..:-). There are migration tools that would allow me to do this, but there very expensive for a one off solution, yet, still cheaper than the man hours it would take me to write it! So.. I'm throwing myself on the mercy of the list and wondering if anyone else has written a script to do this. I'm certainly not asking anyone to do this, as if I cant find the time, I can't ask anyone else to (and I cant pay anyone to, either, unfortunately), but.. if anyone has previously written such a script, it would help hugely.. thanks all, I'll go back to lurking now..
