No, strictly speaking, using .rtf as filename extention will not do you any good.
It all depends on what do you want to do with your file. The "plain text document" usually means ASCII file. Not sure what do you expect when you open it with MS Word. If you want to be able to play with the fonts, etc., then you need to create an .rtf file. ( Not just rename the file! ) Here is the link to the RTF format specification: http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/en-us/dnrtfspec/html/rtfspec.asp?frame=true It is pretty big and convoluted. If you want to take an easy look at what the RTF file really is, you can create a document in MS Word, and then do "Save As" - "Rich Text Format (.RTF)". Then open this .rtf file using some ASCII editor (NOT MS Word!), e.g. Notepad. You will see a bunch of "{", "}", and "\". That is your RTF. The RTF is pretty complex, but there usually are ways to avoid creating it from the scratch. If you can narrow down what exactly things do you want to do, there usually is a way to use some pre-formatted RTF as template and only substitute things that you want to deal with. Hope that helps, Eugene Haimov. -----Original Message----- From: Roland Butler [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED]] Sent: Friday, January 17, 2003 1:07 PM To: 'Jenda Krynicky'; [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: RE: Insert a plain line break? This could explain why if I use '\r' I still don't see what I expect. DO you know how do I count create a plain text document, I guess it is more complicated then just adding .rtf to the end of the file name? I don't think you can. Unless you start creating RTF files instead of plain text ones.
