That's just what I was after Scott, thanks!

Now that I've uninstalled 5.8 and gone back to 5.6.1, I'm not sure that I want to go through the whole process again though... Nice to know that the support for mysql is there if/when I do go to 5.8.

I just saw this in the CPAN documentation for the DBD-Mysql module:

As of this writing, the above procedure won't work with
ActivePerl 5.8.0, because so far a PPM for DBD::mysql is
not available from the ActiveState server. I don't know
why. However, Randy Kobes has kindly donated a PPM package
to his own repository. You can use this as follows:

ppm install http://theoryx5.uwinnipeg.ca/ppms/DBD-mysql.ppd

I will be trying it later on 5.8.0 to see if it works.
It might be worth a try for you.

I was using DBD::mysqlPP (which btw has very little performance degradation
over DBD::mysql) and was happy to do so until I discovered a couple of bugs
relating to handling of BLOB data, which I have reported at:
http://rt.cpan.org/NoAuth/Bug.html?id=1956 and
http://rt.cpan.org/NoAuth/Bug.html?id=1957

As it is I have reverted to ActiveState Perl 5.6.1 build 633 and have been
able to install DBD::mysql successfully.

Thanks again,

Laird
