Basil,
Thanks for the response - I seem to have had a bit more luck that
you -
here's the response I got from support last night.... :-)
Hello Neil,
Thank you for your interest in ActiveState. I'm not sure which version of
ActivePerl you are using.
If you are using ActivePerl 5.8.0: ==================================
As far as the modules being available for 5.8 go, ActiveState does not
maintain or own >99% of the modules out there. We simply attempt to
pre-package those modules available from www.cpan.org for use with PPM/PPM3.
Unfortunately PPM packages in the repository are not always completely
up-to-date or available for every platform as we have developed an automated
system for keeping the PPM repositories current with CPAN sources, but not
all modules build automatically on all platforms (without some tweaking).
Generally, if a given module is not available it is because the auto-build
has failed. Because we do not maintain these modules, compatibility with
Perl 5.8 is up to the authors or maintainers of a given module.
Requests for PPM packages can now be directed to:
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
The link below will provide you with the information you need for querying,
downloading and building perl modules from CPAN:
http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Reference/Products/ActivePerl/lib/CPAN.html
If you are using ActivePerl 5.6.1: ==================================
Recently we rebuilt the directory where the DBD-Oracle package is located
(http://www.activestate.com/PPMpackages/5.6plus/MSWin32-x86-multi-thread/ )
We are in the process of adding the missing package back to the repository
and it should be available in the few days.
If you like, you can manually download the modules as .zip archives and
install them locally although you must use ppm version 2 (ppm).
The package is also available here:
(ActivePerl 5.6.1)
http://ppm.activestate.com/PPMPackages/zips/6xx-builds-only/DB_File.zip
Extract these into a convenient directory (C:\Perl\ would be good) and
follow the instructions in the README file. Basically, it will tell you to
do the
following:
C:\Perl\>ppm install mypackage.ppd
Notice the addition of the ".ppd" extension in the syntax. If you are not in
the directory you have extracted the files to, use the full path for the
file:
C:\>ppm install c:\directoryname\mypackage.ppd
If you've found that the requested module is not available through PPM, PPM3
or downloadable as a .zip file, requests for PPM packages can now be
directed to: [EMAIL PROTECTED]
You can always get the latest packages from CPAN. Instructions on querying,
downloading and building perl modules from CPAN sites can be found here:
http://aspn.activestate.com/ASPN/Reference/Products/ActivePerl/lib/CPAN.html
Best Regards,
