Thanks, I'll definitely investigate that option.
Any suggestions on the best methodology / module to use, and good online reference material to start me off? A quick CPAN and PerlMonks search turns up multiple ways to go about this.
Can you provide some insight as to why you think that this might resolve my problem? Basically you think that Perl's memory management of the hash is causing the problem, and tieing the hash to a database will avoid this by storing the data in a file?
