Um, I think metar is actually a format, not a misspelling of meta. 

Something to do with weather reports:
http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/metar.shtml

I've never used it but I thought I'd clarify the question for our friend
UKJay who sends emails as attachments. Perhaps he'll learn not to use
stationary when posting to a group which may not have the proper clients to
view his fancied up email.

However, if I had to guess I'd tell Mr. UKJay to check on cpan.org for a
module related to "metar". Good luck.
