I have a requirement to start a process (Outlook) on a remote machine and from searching the ActiveState mailing lists I've found a lot of questions but a real shortage of answers. It seems to me that I've seen a Win32 facility to do this before, but after searching Google and CPAN I'm coming up blank.
The main requirement is that we can not install any code on the remote systems. Basically, a single central system has to remotely start Outlook on another machine(s), measure the startup and shutdown times and report them. I have a program that will start Outlook locally, choose a folder, count messages, etc. and report times for all those things, but of course none of this can be done remotely. Incidentally, I have found quite a few modules relating to starting things remotely on Windows, but they all deal with starting and stopping services - in this instance, it won't do as Outlook isn't a service, and we can't modify the remote machines to register it as one. Any suggestions, or is it just more Googling and CPAN searching for me?
