True that there is plenty of idiocy to go around, but Notes also has a lot of good features, many of which have nothing to do with email.
Many companies have a huge amount of 'tribal knowledge'--information that needs to be shared but often isn't. Particularly companies where people come and stay for many years, like my current employer. Lotus Notes is excellent for capturing and organizing that tribal knowledge and making it available to everyone online.
