If I were stuck in that situation, after exhausting any other resources,
I would just cut the entire body and paste it into Vim and quote it, edit
it with my interspersed responses and paste it back into the email
replacing the prior contents.  A little more work, but it would soothe my
anal proclivities to make a proper post of it.
