Subject: FW: Strongly dislike the new TOC in html help
Thanks Jason -- I hadn't found that post in my searches. After I posted
my original post I decided to do what I should have done before posting
- go look at the ActivePerl::DocTools::WriteTOC module and see if there
was anything useful in there. I had looked at the one for the older
ActivePerl, but not the newer one (duh), and (in the new one) saw the
"if" logic in there looking for the displayToc.js file and generating an
.html file if it didn't find it. I was waiting for the digest to come
through with my post so I could reply to myself that I had found my own
answer - but you beat me to it.
Thanks!

Hi Chris,
This is crap. If I don't hear from somebody at ActiveState about
a remedy for this soon I'll have no choice except to go back to
build 811. I guess no more upgrades for me. ActiveState only
wants to do buisness with "cool", "hip", "with it" people now...
Thanks for letting us know how you feel about this. In general it
would be nice if you could copy this kind of feedback to
[EMAIL PROTECTED]
as well to make sure we are made aware of it. Stuff on the mailing
lists easily gets lost when everyone is too busy.
I'll try to write up a longer reply when I have a bit more time,
but here is a quick workaround to get the old style help back:
* Delete (or rename) the Perl/html/displayToc.js file
* Run the following command:
perl -MActivePerl::DocTools -e "ActivePerl::DocTools::WriteTOC()"
* Replace Perl/html/index.html with an older copy. I've attached one
if you don't have one on your machine anymore.
I agree with the original poster.
Please e-mail me a copy of an older Perl/html/index.html. My harddrive
crashed and I am on a virgin installation.
Thanks
* Reload docs in your browser
If anyone else agrees with me let ur voice be heard.
I'm very much interested in feedback / suggestions regarding the
HTML help system in general, usage of vintage browsers, JavaScript
etc. Please let me know!
Cheers,
-Jan
