Possible yes, but I would dispute easy. I think the major use of the diagonal stripe was in the detection of sequence errors. Particularly those subtle ones where a card would decide to move while you weren't looking. Punched cards could be very sneaky. > Been there - dropped those. Oh yes. With and without both sequence numbers and stripes.
