Petr I know it's not Perl but RedMon might be of some use.
http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/redmon/ It lets you capture the output of a printer to any program that can accept an input on stdin. I've used it before to redirect PostScript output through a postprocessor to a file. Hope it helps.
